Favorite campground at the NRG, especially now that AAC has upped their prices. There are fairly private sites if you know where to look (or talk to the cool folks at the front office). Fire pits at all or most of the sites. Fairly affordable. Quiet when you need it to be.
A great place to camp out. It has great amenities and is nicely located very close to hiking spots nearby.
Awesome campground! Nice and quiet, not far from the places we wanted to go which was rock climbing and sightseeing. Ray was super nice, explained the layout to us when we arrived, the pricing structure $9/nt/pp over 12yrs for nonelectric. There was a very clean, large bathhouse and laundry available as well as a sink to clean our dishes if you wanted. They also have a volleyball net! I wish I would have known so we could've brought a ball and/or badminton or something like that for the kids. They have lots of firewood available and ice available to purchase. Ray made rounds at the end of every day to check in on everyone which was nice, especially the last night we were there and a big storm was rolling through. He said if it got too bad to go ahead and get into a cabin if needed with the kids and our dog. How awesome! Will be returning here!
Been camping at Ray's for the past 30 years. Very nice campground with facilities located between Summersville and the New River Bridge, 1 mile off 19 at 60 Midland Trail.
Ray and his wife have a lovely spot, they are very accommodating and affordable!! Very peaceful place not far off the main road.
Edit: I just returned from another stay here and this place is even more special in my eyes now. I stayed at the campground during an off week with one friend (we were the only two at the campground). One night, there were some severe storms predicted and the owners drove down to us to let us know that we could stay in a cabin free of charge if the storms got to be too much for us. Such a generous offer and, although we didn't have to take them up on it thankfully, it was much appreciated. Even outside of this, the owners were both very kind people who made an effort to stop in and talk to us for a few minutes each night while we were there. I'll be staying here every time from now on.
